The Costarricense De Paso horses were created through a cross between the native horses in Costa Rica – the Andalusians and the Peruvians. The Peruvians have a gait that is smooth as silk, so it’s easy for your body to move with them. The Andalusians bring an element of elegance and elevation to the high school dressage movements such as the Spanish Walk and the Piaffe. The Peruvian is one of the smoothest horses in the world, so when you add the elevation of the Andalusian to the Peruvian, you get a horse that is absolutely phenomenal.

Gary Douglas is introducing the Costarricense De Pasos for the first time in the United States. He will cross them with Peruvians to add to the genetic pool of the Peruvian, to increase the size and the strength, while maintaining the Spanish influence, yielding a pure “Raza Español” – a pure Spanish horse.
